Product Introduction / Product 简介
The freeness tester operates on the Canadian Standard Freeness method. A diluted pulp suspension of defined quantity is introduced into the instrument, and the time required for a specific volume of water to drain through the fiber mat or the volume of water discharged under standard conditions is measured, with the result expressed as CSF value. The instrument consists of a measuring chamber, drainage chamber, and upper/lower containers, with precision-designed outlet tubes and screens for standardized measurement. It is easy to operate with intuitive results, and is widely used in groundwood pulp production control, monitoring of drainability changes during chemical pulp beating and refining, and providing reliable data support for process optimization and product development.

FAQ / 常见问题
1. What is the difference between freeness (CSF) and beating degree (°SR)?
Freeness (CSF) uses the Canadian Standard Freeness method, measuring the drainage capacity of a pulp suspension, where higher values indicate faster drainage. Beating degree (°SR) uses the Schopper-Riegler method, where higher values indicate more beating and slower drainage. Both evaluate pulp drainability from different perspectives and are suitable for different standard systems and pulp types.
2. Under what circumstances does false freeness occur?
If processing generates a large amount of fine fibers, these fines can block drainage channels and may cause abnormally high freeness readings (false freeness), meaning the values are lower than expected. Actual measurement should be combined with fiber morphology analysis for comprehensive judgment.
3. Is freeness directly related to drainage performance on the paper machine wire?
Not necessarily. Freeness mainly reflects drainage capacity under standard laboratory conditions, while wire section drainage performance is also affected by wire structure, vacuum level, mat thickness, and many other factors. Freeness can serve as a reference indicator but cannot fully replace actual wire drainage performance evaluation.
4. What are the advantages of the wall-mounted structure?
The wall-mounted structure can be installed on a laboratory wall, saving floor space and suitable for laboratories with limited space. This structure is mainly available for overseas users upon request.

5. What is the operating procedure of the instrument?
Inject a quantitative pulp suspension into the measuring chamber, conduct drainage measurement under standard temperature conditions, record the discharged water volume or time, and calculate the CSF value according to the standard method. Specific operations should follow the corresponding standard adopted.
6. Does the instrument require regular calibration?
Periodic verification using standard pulp samples is recommended to ensure measurement accuracy. If deviations beyond the allowable range are detected, contact our after-sales service for professional calibration and technical support.

Freeness is a critical indicator of the drainage performance of pulp suspensions, directly reflecting the ability of pulp fibers to dewater on the wire and playing a key role in papermaking process control and product quality prediction. The Canadian Standard Freeness (CSF) method determines freeness by measuring the time required for a pulp suspension to discharge a specific volume of water under standard conditions; higher values indicate faster drainage and easier dewatering of the pulp. This method is especially suitable for monitoring drainability changes during beating and refining of groundwood and chemical pulps. Beating causes fibers to fibrillate and generate fines, leading to a decrease in freeness; however, excessive fines can produce false freeness readings. Therefore, freeness measurement should be combined with fiber morphology analysis for comprehensive evaluation. The freeness tester is fundamental equipment in pulp and paper laboratories, providing reliable data support for process optimization, quality control, and scientific research.
